Luthais Samaire: a bull in a china shop. This man is the embodiment of steadfast resolve, a paragon of unyielding spirit. Known for his caustic tongue and relentless patriotism for his country, he will stop at nothing to keep his nation free of Imperial shackles. His high-handed mannerisms are rooted in an existence marked by countless encounters with adversity; he is a man sculpted from the strife of the battlefield, bearing a legacy of blood—both spilt from the veins of his enemies and his own. Few are bold enough to question him—though despite Luthais' tendencies towards aggression, the respect he's earned over the years is not solely based out of fear. For when the clarions of battle sound, it is Luthais who strides undaunted to where the arrows fall thickest, his willingness to self-sacrifice as heroic as it is reckless. He's the type of man you want beside you in a battle, not before you as your enemy. Having him as your commanding officer is only slightly less terrifying.
Operating on a hairpin trigger, it's easy to rile Luthais into action, and age has not seemed to dull his temper. If anything, the days when his bad leg is especially painful often have him itching for a fight, searching for any discrepancy to give him an excuse. This volatile nature means that most avoid him unless absolutely necessary—including his own children. It's smarter to steer clear of Luthais than to attempt befriending him, if such a thing is even possible, considering how difficult his trust is to earn.
If Luthais has a soft spot, Nairna is the only one who has seen it. Possession, protection, at times even adoration are at his forefront when it comes to his wife, but vulnerability is simply a trait he does not possess. Still, she softens him when he allows it—and on the other edge of the blade, she sharpens him when they fight. Nairna is his northern star, the one thing to which he will always return, or die trying.
At the end of the day, Luthais would hold the entire Jacobite force upon his back if he could. There exists within him a desire fierce enough to breach the stoutest defenses, to single-handedly tear asunder the battlements of Rionnach with the fury of his charge—if he had a death wish. His blood sings for violence, for dominance, for the freedom of his people; not only is he too stubborn to consider his own death, but the unspoken truth remains that there is no other of his caliber to take up his mantle should he fall. So, he will simply shoulder the herculean task as well as he can, for as long as he can.
