Appearance
Luthais is stalwart in his age, and strong as an oak tree. He's cloaked in earthen shades, and his eyes are the deep, pure, burning red of his family line. He limps, just slightly, on his right hind leg, a souvenir from the rebellion. That injury gets worse with cold and rain.

Personality
Luthais has always been a man of action, and he prizes efficiency and hard work above most other things. He is nothing short of a workhorse, rising before the sun and finding rest long after others have ended the day. He finds solace in sweat and blood and respects only those who prove their worth to him through action and results. He is quick to find fault in others, and his trust is hard-earned. He is blunt to the point of abrasion, and his temper is always just below the surface. He has little patience for anyone, even children, and most just learn to simply stay out of his way.

For all of Luthais's faults, he is also known to be steadfast and enduring, a pillar of strength in Clan Samaire and amongst the Jacobite force. He has never asked of anyone what he would not do himself, and many respect his harsh tactics because they know the deep loyalty from which they originate. They may not find him to be fair, but his words and advice often lend a great deal of weight. In most situations, his reputation precedes him.

Luthais prefers to speak Gaelic and will have a strong accent when speaking the common tongue.

History
There are whispered tales regarding Luthais Samaire. Are the rumors true about how he ascended to power? How he, the second son, fought his own brother for the title of Chief -- and won in a wash of blood? Some remember his youth, but those still alive are smart enough not to talk about it. Luthais has been Chief for nearly all of his life, and not one has challenged him. Not even as things have gone horribly wrong. Not yet...

Luthais hails from Clan Samaire of old. While it was once a great and powerful clan, its numbers have dwindled over the years. One fact has been clear for as long as Luthais has been alive, however: Clan Samaire has been loyal to House Stuart. During the rebellion, Luthais was quick to throw in his Clan's lot with Queen Aileen, believing in a new beginning under the Jacobite banner. But it ended in disaster. In the rebellion, Luthais lost more than the battle: he lost his son, Kiel. His daughter, Roisin, was stolen away to buy his compliance and surrender. They need not have taken Roisin, however -- at that point, Clan Samaire's numbers were too scant for Luthais to have considered fighting back.

Since the failed rebellion, Luthais has been on a hair trigger. No one can blame him, what with the death of his son, the kidnapping of his daughter, and the annihilation of a dream in one fell swoop. He has mourned Kiel, but Roisin's return to the fold has lead to disgust and admonition. She is not the daughter he remembers, so he clings to his new family and his two other small children. They see a softer side of him, perhaps, than Roisin ever will.

The Jacobian Army has given the Chief purpose and a chance to serve the true King once more, but every day that passes -- and every twinge of his injured leg -- reminds Luthais of all that he has lost.

Luthais has been touched by the fae magic and did not age up in Spring 1710. He remained 6 years of age.
