Profile of Reuben

Fur like the ocean waves grows from a medium build, patches of blue, dark grey and silvery blue mix together along his spine and shoulders. Solid blue marks his face and a stripe of silvery blue leads to a ruff of the same hue surrounding his neck like a mane. Forest green eyes reflect the guilt within, a shifty gaze that never meets others.

Good intentions pave the road to hell. Reuben has always meant well. The unfortunate accidents that happen through his actions have sown the seeds of guilt deep within his heart. He wants to do better, to be reliable, but his efforts always lead to disaster at the expense of the one he wants to protect the most. This time will be different. The same promises, assurances and confident smiles line his boyish features. Sulliven believes in him. It gives him to strength to keep going and so that he can feel worthy of the faith he doesn't deserve. Each failure leaves another crack in his confident facade and the question remains. Would Sulliven be better off without him?

As the eldest of identical twin boys, Reuben tried his hardest to be the reliable older brother and protector of his younger twin. The first incident happened while they were still young. Reuben encouraged his brother to venture out into the rain while their parents were sleeping to play tag. The wet conditions led to Sulliven slipping and breaking his leg while Reuben was chasing him. It was the start of the familiar pattern of pitiful apologies and desperate promises that it wouldn't happen again.

Duty and responsibility were always something the irresponsible youth avoided. He'd rather spend the days fooling around with his best friend and enjoying life than growing up. It was his father's declining health and his mother's absence that forced him to mature before he was ready. There were few options in a country at war and he had no skills or talents to build a career on. He followed the call to arms and enlisted in the Jacobian Army to make something of himself and ruined two lives in the process. Caught up in a battle he pursued a retreating Imperial and the soldier slipped, striking their head, dying almost instantly. Reuben fled the battlefield, abandoning his post and deserting from the army. Word reached him that his brother had been arrested in his place and Reuben headed south, desperate to make things right by enlisting in the enemy army and securing his brother's freedom.
