Appearance
Born to parents of earthen and ember hues, it was expected that Osiris — then Kael — would be born very much the same, with perhaps some combination of their markings. Osiris, however, was born snow white, with pale, pink skin. He, a man birthed of snow, was soon shown to have eyes of a colorless crimson hue — a true albino, and not simply a throwback to an earlier generation to one of his parents.

Osiris grew into a large creature, being large even from a young age; by the time he was a yearling, he was larger than his father, who was already a fairly large man himself. This, Osiris’ father knew to be a throwback to his own father, who had been exceptionally large. He is particularly tall – although a year of travel and hardships have made him a rather muscular creature, rather than the lanky appearance most of his family holds.

Osiris, as time has gone on for him, has accrued a series of large, noticeable scars upon his bodice and visage, one claw set taking his right eye, making it milky, and blind. The scar over the eyeball itself prevents any sign of the pupil that was once there, and he is lucky enough to still have the eyeball itself. An incident in a forest fire only a year prior left the man even more scarred upon his left hind leg, leaving it constantly looking slick, and inflamed — angry at its marring. He has no feeling in this hind leg, but can still use it to stand and walk, although he does favor it a bit, if only because he cannot feel where he’s putting it. No fur grows upon this leg, where the burn starts.

The man moves in a surprisingly smooth, silent way for a man his size, but one can tend to hear that single step of that one leg just a little bit more. His voice is a deep, rough baritone that sounds almost like a growl when he speaks. Osiris is fluent in both english and gaelic.

FOR BREEDING PURPOSES: While Osiris himself is albino, he does still carry the ability to give children an earthen or ember-hued pelt; he also carries the ability to give orange or grey eyes.

Personality
What was once a carefree child, who cared only about seeing the world and learning what it had to offer… now stands a broken man holding to the shambles of his former personality in the wake of something he doesn’t understand — night terrors and flashes abound, as his mind struggles to comprehend the reality of what happened to him. An unyielding fear of lighting and fire haunts the man, and storms tend to push him into a terrified rage now.

Despite the brokenness of who he once was, there still stands a ghost of what was once there, looking out through the glass plane that he’s put up between himself and the world around him. Those that knew him still know him, although they realize that something is fundamentally changed about him; those that never knew him will come to learn the damage that has been done by nature’s rage.

History
born in Ayr
The Ciarach line is an old family in the Lowlands of Rionnach. They have served as keepers of their own aviary for the last few generations, after the patriarch of the family, Raild (not Osiris’ father, but rather his grandfather) decided to break away from the constant military interaction that their bloodline had held, and instead chose to go into a simpler profession. While the family has not always been bird keepers/tamers, they have been a name known in the Lowlands for longer than any of them can remember.

Raild, not the first of his name, although most certainly the most recent, was married to a young woman named Marsail MacBhigein, whose family was also a known family in the Lowlands — although in recent generations their family name had gone down with the loss of some wealth. Their families jumped at the opportunity to marry a young girl into a family with some known lineage, and more so, a family that had set themselves well onto the path of gaining some wealth — as much as aviary owners can garner, rather.

The young couple was happy enough with each other, although the first few months of their arranged marriage were a tad awkward, so to say, but it did not take long for Marsail to fall pregnant.

In the spring of 1706, the young couple’s pups were born — two little girls who looked so much like their parents, and one boy who… well, looked like anything but his parents. The children were named Ailis and Caitir for the girls, and Kael for the single boy. Kael, as it was soon to be realized was not a sign of infidelity or a throwback to an earlier generation, but rather was a mutant all in his own right — an albino. Where his sisters were dark earthen hues, the boy was a bright snowy white, his skin pale and pink rather than the darkened hues of the rest of his family.

The three were raised in the Ciarach Aviary and taught the ways of bird taming and training and husbandry as they grew. They would carry on the family lineage and hopefully would pass it along to their own children in time.

As the children grew and reached a year old, Kael decided to part from his family, called by a wanderlust that would not be satiated by simply wandering around Ayr or the Lowlands in general. While his parents did not particularly enjoy the idea, Kael’s sisters pushed for him to take on a journey, to see the world as much as he could — with one simple promise. That he would return in a year's time.

Kael agreed with them, taking the promise seriously.

And with that, he set out.

Now, during the time of his travels, Kael experienced and saw many things, and within a month had left the kingdom of Rionnach entirely. He found himself amongst a primitive clan some legions away from the edge of Rionnach and spent more time there than he truly intended to. But, he learned their ways, and their religion, and even adopted a name that they had given him as his permanent name: Osiris, the Morning Star.

Although, he did keep his surname, unwilling to let it go to slough off his old identity entirely.

During this time, the boy learned to fight, to defend himself in ways that his own father simply hadn’t been able to teach him. This lead to an array of scaring upon his bodice, but, the ones that are so evident today came from an attack by a bear, during a hunt that the pack he’d found himself living with. They’d gone after the bear, that had taken to abducting and eating their pups, and Kael — now Osiris — had sought to prove himself in some way, but, and also sought to protect those that he had come to see as a family in some way… this left him scarred, marked for the rest of his life, and half blind.

Several months after his second spring, another tragedy would strike that would ultimately push the man back to his homeland.

A forest fire. Lighting had struck a tree, and the flames had run rampant through the rather dry forest, consuming everything in its wake. In his attempt to save some of his newfound family that had been trapped, Osiris subjected himself to heinous burns on his back leg, a scar that will never leave him and will forever serve as a permanent reminder of the friends and family that he failed to save.

In their absence, Osiris returned to Rionnach, a man now, changed beyond any real recognition.

While his birth family welcomed him back with open arms, they did harbor some concerns for him, and his sanity…

But, only time shall tell what the true damage was, beyond the obvious physical marring that Osiris has incurred.

Despite his return to Rionnach, the man has shed his birthname, and no longer truly answers to Kael, and even his family has accepted his name, and the reasoning behind him keeping it.
